I am very glad to
learn that the Kannagi Traditional Indian Dance
Troupe will be organizing Bharatanatyam and Carnatic
music performances in Yokohama, Tokyo and Osaka
in November 2000.
The presence of the distinguished artiste, Padmashree
Adyar K.Lakshman, would lend a particular distinction
to these forthcoming programmes.
Culture and performing arts have always had a central
place in India-Japan relations. At a time when the
two societies are coming closer together and expanding
their range of co-operation, it is all the more
important that our people are introduced appropriately
to each other's cultural heritage. The dance and
music forms which are proposed to be presented are
amongst the oldest and richest of India's vast artistic
traditions. It, therefore, gives me particular pleasure
to note that leading dancers and musicians of both
countries would be collaborating closely in this
laudable endeavour.
I convey my best wishes for the success of these
programmes. |

私は、“巫”KANNAGI印度古典舞踊研究所が、2000年11月に、大阪、東京、横浜において、南インド音楽と古典舞踊・バラタナティアムの公演を行うことを知り、大変嬉しく思っております。
そして、大変高名なアーティストである、パドマシュリ・アディアール・K.ラクシュマン氏がこの公演に出演するということは、特筆すべきことであります。
文化と舞台芸術は、常にインドと日本との関係において、中心的な役割を果 たしてきました。そして、この二つの国が更に近付き、協力の幅を広げようとしている中で、我々の国民が、両国の文化遺産を通
して紹介されるということは、一層重要な意味があります。今回、紹介される音楽と舞踊は、長い歴史を持つ豊かなインド伝統芸術であり、だからこそ、両国の音楽家、舞踊家が共演するという、素晴らしい試みに私は注目しております。
公演の成功をお祈りしています。
