Miyuki is the president of KANNAGI
Traditional Indian Dance Institute in Tokyo.
Studied "Bharatanatyam"
under the master, "Padmashree
" Adyar K. Lakshman, who is a famous master
and choreographer, who has the title of Padma shree, in
Chennai(Madras), in the south part of India. From K. Lakshman
she learned a religious fertility presentation, a chreography
which is fast and has an involved rhythm in the style
of classical Kalakshetra, which is considered one of the
most refined styles of its kind.
After studying in India, she learned from Smt.
Neila Sathyalingam, who has the tilte of Viswakalaa Bharathi,
who is the president of one of the most outstanding traditional
Indian dance groups in Singapore called Apsaras
Arts. Since her first visit to India in 1991,
she has returned to India and Singapore several times.
She not only studies in the Bharatanatyam field of Indian
dance, but is also studying a traditional form of dance
from the east of India called "Odissi".
She studied individually with Ms. Chitra Shankar who is
the most senior disciple of the well-known master, Guru
Hare Krishna Behara. After that, she is learning from
Guru Mayadhar Raut,
who is well-known as the great Guru of the most classical
style(Gotipua-Style) of "Odissi", and his daughter,
Ms. Madhumita Raut in Delhi.
Miyuki organaized dance performance in Tokyo, Osaka and
Nagoya in 1997 and 1998, when she invited Padmashree Adyar
K. Lakshman and six musicians from India, and the leading
dancer, Mavin Khoo to perform. These performance were
successful and well-received by their audiences. In 1999,
she invited five musicians including the director, Mrs.
Neila Sathyalingam, and organized Miyuki's performance
as the recital in Tokyo and Yokohama(Kanagawa). In 2000,
she invited Padmashree Adyar K. Lakshman with five musicians
and Smt. Roja Kannan, the most senior disciple of Adyar
K. Lakshman to perform. These full-scale Bharatanatyam
dance performance were held in Osaka , Tokyo, and Yokohama.
After that, she has started organizing a Kannagi
Traditional Indian Dance Troup with her senior
students. In 2001, they were invited by Apsaras Arts Signapore,
and gave Bharatanatyam performance in Singapore sponsored
by Singapore Arts Council.
At the moment, Miyuki is teaching Bharatanatyam and Odissi
in four different locations in Tokyo and Yokohama(Kanagawa)
in Japan. She sometimes takes the class for the students
of some universities(Waseda Univ., Kyoritsu Univ. etc.)
for introducing Indian classical dance in Tokyo. |
